DELTONA, Fla. -- A 3-year-old Deltona boy shot himself in the stomach after taking a gun and a magazine from a nightstand in his mother's room, a family member said.The boy was taken by family members to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City and is expected to be OK.According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred inside the boy's home on Concert Road sometime before 9:22 a.m. Tuesday.The boy's mother told Local 6 News that the boy went into her room, took the gun from the nightstand, went back to his bedroom and shot himself while trying to load the firearm.The mother may face charges in the incident.The Sheriff's Office said it learned of the shooting when the hospital called to request that an officer respond to the emergency room.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
