Burglars Ignore Jewelry, Cash, Steal Central Florida Family's Pet Dog

POSTED: Friday, June 20, 2008
UPDATED: 1:23 pm EDT June 20, 2008

A Central Florida family has launched a worldwide YouTube plea for the safe return of their pet dog after thieves broke into their home and stole the animal, ignoring cash and jewelry.

"I lost my mother and my father," a crying Ken McKinnon said. "I don't think I felt this bad because somebody stole her -- took her away and took her out of my house."

McKinnon and his wife said they were at work when thieves pried open a door at their home located on Willow Grove Lane in Clermont.

A flat-screen television and jewelry were not touched, police said.

"To come into your home and take your pet, I can't imagine doing that to anybody," Marie McKinnon said.

The McKinnon family have posted a sign about the theft, spread fliers around town and have launched a YouTube video asking for the return of their Yorkie named Precious.

Lake County investigators recovered a single fingerprint from the bedroom door.

Police said they have not idea why someone would steal the McKinnon's dog.

"The feeling I have (is that) I want to do something," Marie McKinnon said. "But I don't know where to go."

Anyone with information concerning this crime is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
