'Catch Me If You Can' Detective Taunting Con Man Caught, Police Say

POSTED: Saturday, June 21, 2008
UPDATED: 5:33 pm EDT June 23, 2008

A wanted man police said has been taunting Central Florida detectives with phone calls was captured by officers in Kentucky.

Officers said they took Marvin Lewis, 58, into custody without incident after he was spotted in Independence, Ky., late Friday.

Lewis was featured in a Local 6 report last year after he allegedly stole nearly $40,000 from a 72-year-old Kissimmee woman.

After investigators announced that they were hunting Lewis, the 58-year-old began to leave taunting phone calls to Detective Tim Fisher.

Lewis would actually stop and leave the taunting messages while he was on the run, Local 6's Adam Longo reported.

"It's getting aggravating," Fisher said. "He's basically leaving me messages saying, 'Catch me if you can.'"

"You are hoping that somebody that's close by would recognize me or something?" a voice apparently belonging to Lewis said in a phone message. "Did you ever figure out what my name was?"

Police did not say what information led them to Lewis.

He faces grand theft and fraud related charges in Kissimmee.
