1993: Gen. James Harold "Jimmy" Doolittle, an aviation pioneer who earned the Medal of Honor as commander of the Doolittle Raid, the first retaliatory air raid on Japan following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, dies at the age of 96 in Pebble Beach, Calif.
