Audio In Cheerleader Beating Case Released

UPDATED: 4:38 pm EDT June 26, 2008

Audio of a conversation between a prosecutor and one of the teens suspected in the videotaped "animalistic" beating of a Polk County cheerleader has been released.

Kayla Hassall, 15, allegedly told authorities that the presence of a video camera may have fueled the beating of Victoria Lindsay, which took place in March.

Hassall allegedly identified Brittini Hardcastle and April Cooper as the girls punching Lindsday.

"People were probably tired of her running her mouth," Hassal said on the released audiotape. "She's always saying she's going to fight us and she's going to beat the (expletive) out of us, well OK, I guess we're going to do that to her."

"Do you think the camera ...," the prosecutor begins to ask Hassal before she said, "It might've encouraged it. Yeah, probably."

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the beating was "animalistic" after watching the video.

In another development, Hardcastle on Thursday was released from house arrest.
