9-Month-Old Suffers Burns, Smoke Inhalation

UPDATED: 3:57 pm EDT July 5, 2008

A 9-month-old boy suffered burns on his arms and face Saturday morning when three children apparently were playing with fireworks inside a Summerfield home, Marion County Fire Rescue officials said.

The fire began in a bedroom of the home, located on Southeast 44th Court in Summerfield.

Three children, ages 4, 6 and 7, were in the bedroom when the fire ignited, officials said.

The 9-month-old suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening-injuries, Marion County fire officials said.

No charges will be filed, but the children will be referred to the Juvenile Fire Starters Program, which is a two-hour class on fire safety, officials said.
