A woman was shot by police officers in Clermont overnight when she tried to run them over with a vehicle, police said.

The shooting took place just after 12:30 a.m. Friday on 12th Street near Highway 50 in Clermont.

According to police, officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away down a dead-end street before coming back toward the officers.

Clermont police Lt. Eric Jensen said the officers felt threatened and fired at the car, striking the woman twice in the leg.

The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A passenger jumped out of the vehicle and fled, police said. The person has not been found, but police said they know who the individual is.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
