FWC officers said Madison McGinnis, of Altamonte Springs, was by herself on a jet ski Sunday on Lake Katherine in Casselberry when she struck the parked personal watercraft.

Madison was thrown into a tree after the impact, witnesses said.

She was transported in critical condition to Arnold Palmer Hospital.

"She is very fortunate based on the accident scene that I've seen and seeing her in the hospital that she is actually still alive," Fish and Wildlife Lt. Jeff Hudson said. "Little Madison is very lucky to be alive."

The girl's 17-year-old sister was also on the lake on a jet ski at the time of the crash.

Casselberry police said charges are pending against the adult responsible for allowing the young girl to drive the watercraft.

Florida law states that it is illegal to let someone under the age of 14 operate a person watercraft.
