Family Likely Threatened In Missing Girl Case, Grandmother Tells Nation
Mother Wants Out Of Jail To Help Investigators Find Missing Daughter
"I think whoever has Caylee, either it is that person or that someone they are connected with (who) has threatened Casey's family in some way," grandmother Cindy Anthony told The Early Show's Lara Spencer. "That could be Casey's life, my life or George's life. It is not Casey who feels threatened because Casey would take her life for her own daughter."Casey Anthony, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday after detectives determined her daughter had been missing since early June and was never reported missing."She has her reasons why she can't be completely honest with (investigators)," Anthony said. "She told them she was fearful to go to the police. I think Casey is frightened that somebody that she feels very, um, I think Casey is frightened for another person."Cindy Anthony told Spencer she believes her daughter was betrayed by someone she trusted."I think Casey trusted her with the same person she has trusted her with for a long time and that person has betrayed her and has since then been threatening her and that is why she can't be 100 percent honest in everything that she is telling people," Anthony said."I don't believe my daughter is in danger," grandfather George Anthony said. "My granddaughter is the one who is in danger. She is not the one with us."Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said investigators have made the process more difficult by taking Casey into custody when they did."My client told me that she does not know where Caylee is," Anthony family attorney Jose Baez said. "We are going to do everything we can to assist law enforcement in any way possible while still trying to protect my client's interest. I have to do my job here. They decided to arrest her at a certain point and launch criminal charges and that is what has made this communication a little more difficult."
Mom Wants Out Of Jail
Meanwhile, Casey Anthony wants to be freed from jail so she can help find her daughter."We want to find Caylee," Anthony family attorney Jose Baez said. "I have had in-depth and long conversations with my client and she has asked to help cooperate. She wants to cooperate."Baez would not say what it is that he learned that leads him to believe that a release could help lead to Caylee's return, Local 6's Tony Pipitone reported.Baez also described Anthony's situation in jail during a Monday news conference."They have put her in a situation that is very difficult -- extremely difficult," Baez said. "They've put a psych hold on her where she has been stripped of her bedding. Her underwear has been taken from her. She is in a cell in protective custody. All she has is basically a blanket in a small room."Baez will ask Circuit Judge Stan Strickland to grant bond Tuesday afternoon."In all of research I've uncovered, I've never seen anyone denied bail with no prior criminal history with these sets of facts," Baez said.Casey Anthony is charged with child neglect and a few misdemeanors -- charges that would normally produce a bond of about $7,500, Local 6's Tony Pipitone reported.Family: Daughter Can Help
Family members are also pushing for Anthony's release from jail, saying she could be valuable in the search.Family members said they still believe Caylee's mystery baby sitter named Zenaida Gonzalez had something to do with her disappearance.Investigators are questioning whether the woman exists, Local 6 reported. The girl's grandmother said she has never met the baby sitter but has heard stories about her for years.Casey Anthony said she dropped her daughter off at the baby sitter's apartment on June 9. But when she returned, she said the baby sitter and Caylee were missing. When detectives returned to the apartment last week, they discovered the apartment has been vacant for months and that no one named Zenaida lived there. Also, Casey Anthony has never described how they could find Zenaida, Local 6's Mike DeForest reported."I trust Casey wholeheartedly that where Casey says she is, is where she is," Cindy Anthony said. "I think Casey had every intention of picking up Caylee from the baby sitter on June 9 but when she found out that the baby sitter was reluctant, or refused or said, 'You are not getting her back,' Casey panicked." Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Caylee is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS. Watch Local 6 News for more on this developing story.
