1862: Auguste Lumière (left), who, along with his brother Louis (right), was one of the earliest filmmakers in history, is born in Besançon, France. The Lumière brothers patented a number of significant filmmaking processes leading up to their film camera, the cinématographe, and presented the first motion picture screenings in 1895.
