Gas Cans Removed From Home In Missing Orlando Girl Mystery

Mother Jailed On Child Neglect Charge

Bags removed by crime-scene investigators from the home of the grandparents of a missing Orlando girl contained gasoline cans that will apparently be fingerprinted, Local 6 has learned.

The gas cans -- once believed to have been inside the trunk of Casey Anthony's car (who is the mother of missing Caylee) -- have already been scrutinized heavily by forensic technicians.

The cans were recovered by investigators Friday in just five minutes from the home located on Hopespring Drive in Orange County.

"The police are doing their jobs," Anthony's attorney Jose Baez said. "Just because they went there and retrieved items doesn't make it evidence."

Baez said there is nothing that would lead him to believe that what is inside the bags is relevant to the case.

"I don't see any active searches in any specific locations for Caylee," Baez said.

Sources told Local 6 that what's in the bags are the same two gas cans reported stolen in late June from the Anthony's shed in the back yard.

"Someone had broken the lock," missing girl's grandfather George Anthony said last week. "Gas cans were taken. Gas cans with gasoline -- probably $50 worth. I found out who took them and they were returned and that was the extent of it."

"The only thing right now detectives are thinking that maybe it was taken for the car," Orange County sheriff's investigator Lt. Carlos Padilla said.

Investigators also said that Casey had been known to steal gas from the house to fuel the car.

The theft is believed to have happened during the week of June.

Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, and her husband had little to say after their meeting with investigators and after the cans were recovered.

Investigators also went into the back yard, deputies said.

George and Cindy Anthony own the home and are the grandparents of Caylee Anthony, who has been missing for about six weeks.

Casey Anthony was arrested on child neglect charges about two weeks ago in connection with her daughter's disappearance and is being held at the Orange County Jail.

FBI Interview

FBI agents also spoke with Cindy Anthony for six hours as a national search continues for the child.

"I think it went very well," Cindy Anthony said during a nationally televised interview. "It's always good to know that there is more people looking for Caylee. I mean that's our whole focus, to find Caylee."

Anthony recently said she thinks she knows what happened to Caylee.

"It's making sense," Cindy Anthony said. "I've been saying over and over again, pieces are starting to come together."

But Orange County sheriff's Deputy Carlos Padilla said Cindy Anthony has not shared her theories with detectives.

"What we want to say to her and to rest of the family is please share the information with us, anybody," Padilla said. "I know I don't know (where Caylee is). I just met with the detectives this afternoon and they didn't say anything about her having any information that right now would help us locate Caylee any quicker."

Detectives are still talking with people who could be involved in the child's disappearance, Local 6 has learned.

"It is frustrating," Padilla said. "We still feel that the key lies with Casey and if she would just open up and just tell us where Caylee is, this could very well end quickly."

The Anthonys said Casey thinks the sheriff's office is building a case against her and that she doesn't trust them.

However, Padilla said they've been so busy, they have not had time to do anything like build a case, Local 6's Erik von Ancken reported.

"(Casey) has given them as much information as she feels comfortable that she can say without jeopardizing the safety of Caylee and her family," Cindy Anthony said.

Also, Padilla said there is still nothing to indicate that a baby sitter Casey claims had her daughter exists.
