A Central Florida man attacked and bitten by fire ants while walking his dog went into shock and died.

Robert Cuningham was walking his dog in front of his Chuluota home on Warner Drive Tuesday when he was attacked by ants and went into anaphylactic shock.

Cuningham, who was allergic to ant bites, died later Tuesday night in a hospital.

There were published reports that said Cuningham's death was caused by fire ants that washed into his home following Tropical Storm Fay and bit him multiple times, but Cuningham's family said that is not true, Local 6 News reported.
