SAINT CLOUD, Fla. -- A man was airlifted with second-degree burns that he suffered during an explosion caused when he lit a cigarette after placing a "bug bomb" under a travel trailer, Saint Cloud authorities said.
The 55-year-old man was burned on his head, chest, neck and face in the explosion at about 11:10 p.m. Thursday night at his home, located at 901 Walnut in Mark Mobile Home Park.
St. Cloud Fire Rescue officials said the man was discovered in his shower cooling off the burns he received from a flash fire.
According to preliminary reports, the explosion was caused by a "bug bomb" being placed under the cabinets in a travel trailer, Saint Cloud police said. The man sat down to smoke, and as he lit a cigarette, the room detonated, blowing the cabinets apart and the stove door open, causing drawers to fall to the floor, police said.
The man was burned, but nothing else in the room was charred or burned, Saint Cloud police said.
The man was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
