ORLANDO, Fla. -- An 11-year-old girl was sentenced to one year of probation after being accused of spitting on a teacher and then punching a sheriff's deputy in the face.
The Moss Park Elementary School student, Thalia Garcia, was shocked with deputy's Taser gun during the incident earlier this year.
She was then charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Thalia pleaded no contest to the charges in juvenile court Wednesday before a judge sentenced her.
The 11-year-old is also supposed to continue counseling and write a letter of apology to the deputy. The family must also pay $2,000 in court costs.
"Psychologists and counseling -- it has been a disaster for my family," Thalia's mother Sandra Garcia said.
Garcia said Moss Park Elementary School has invited her daughter back to attend the school.
But, Thalia now attends another Orange County public school.
The family's attorney said he plans on civil suit against the Orange County sheriff's deputy who shocked the child with a Taser gun.
He said the deputy stepped out her legal bounds, Local 6 reported.
