Cindy Anthony Theorized That Her Daughter's Friends Had Caylee
Caylee Anthony Last Seen In June
Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, was charged with child neglect in mid-July in the disappearance of her daughter. The newly released information includes an interview of Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, a computer forensics report and cell phone records of Casey Anthony. In the released interview, which was conducted Aug. 1, Cindy Anthony told detectives that she thought Caylee was with her daughter's friends, not Zenaida Gonzalez."I think Zani, at this point, was a real person," said Cindy Anthony, pointing to a calendar. "But I think Zani now is whoever is watching Caylee."Cindy Anthony offered two theories to detectives as to who had Caylee."I think Zani could either be Amy (Huizenga, Casey Anthony's former best friend) or Jesse (Grund, Casey Anthony's former fiance)," Cindy Anthony said.Grund believed he was Caylee's father until a paternity test proved otherwise."He was the very first person I thought of," Cindy Anthony said. "(He) had a motive, could intimidate Casey enough to keep her mouth shut and (he) would threaten us because he's that type of person. He was in my home every day, and I got to know him. And I got to see his anger and rage because he took it out on me one day."Near the end of the interview, detectives told Cindy Anthony that they were certain Grund did not have Caylee."We know for a fact that Jesse does not have Caylee," a detective said.Detectives also spent time with Cindy Anthony, trying to nail down a timeline into her granddaughter's disappearance."Any time Caylee ever stayed away from the house, Casey said she was with Zani," Cindy Anthony said. "And it wasn't that often -- maybe a night here or there, sporadically, but she always said she was crashing at Zani's."Cindy Anthony told Orange County sheriff's detectives that she didn't know what Casey Anthony did while Cindy Anthony was at work."Most of the time she was there when I got home," Cindy Anthony said.Detectives said they searched for the name "Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez" on Casey Anthony's computer but did not find any reference. Casey Anthony has said that she left Caylee with a baby sitter named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez at the Sawgrass Apartments in Orange County. In a May 6 chat with someone going by the moniker "nyitaliano3," Casey Anthony did refer to a Zani, saying that she hates playing phone tag with her mother and "Zani." It marks the first known reference that the name "Zani" had been used by Casey Anthony prior to Caylee's disappearance.Meanwhile, an image that investigators said was placed on Casey Anthony's laptop July 8 shows a girl staring up at a teddy bear that is hanging by a noose with a caption that reads, "Why do people kill people, who kill people, to show people that to kill people is bad?"The image was apparently found on a Web site that originated in the United Kingdom, Local 6 News reporter Tony Pipitone said.Three days later, an image of lyrics from the deceased rapper Tupac Shakur were saved onto Casey Anthony's laptop, according to the documents. The lyrics say, "You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened ... or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the (expletive) on."Caylee Anthony was last seen June 15 at the Anthony home but was not reported missing until mid-July.Also, among the 600 pages of released documents was a statement by Caylee's great-grandmother, who said a child called her on the phone before Caylee went missing.Cindy Anthony has said that her mother received at least one phone call from Caylee after she disappeared. The great-grandmother said she cannot be sure that the girl who called her was Caylee."In a way, I wasn't expecting it, but if I said it was Caylee's voice, I'm not telling the truth because I don't know. But it sounded like a little kid," she said. She said she received a second similar call, suggesting that someone was playing a recording of a child's voice and nobody answered her when she said hello. An employee at the impound lot where the car Casey Anthony had been driving was towed after being found abandoned at an Orange County Amscot said the car smelled bad.He said at first he just thought the smell was from garbage, but when he opened the trunk with Casey Anthony's father, George Anthony, nearby, the smell reminded him of a car that someone else had committed suicide in.Watch Local 6 News and stay with Local6.com for more information about this story.
Audio From Interviews
Orange County sheriff's investigators on Thursday released new audio recordings from interviews in the Caylee Anthony case. The recordings were from interviews with Caylee's uncle, Lee Anthony, and Jesse Grund and Anthony Lazzaro, former boyfriends of Casey Anthony.Lee Anthony told investigators that his mother, Cindy Anthony, and his sister, Casey Anthony, had an ongoing feud that dated back to before Caylee was born.In the interview, Lee Anthony described his sister's car, which had been returned to his parents' home July 15 after being found abandoned at an Orange County Amscot and towed to a lot."The trunk was open. The windows were rolled down to what I assume ventilate the horrible smell that I had just smelled for the first time," Lee Anthony said.An investigator asked if the smell "filled up the garage.""Yeah, it was ... it hit you like a wave. I mean it was -- whatever it was -- it was very potent," Lee Anthony said.Lee Anthony said his mother grew tired of asking Casey Anthony questions about Caylee's whereabouts and getting no answers.Lee Anthony said he then sat down alone with his sister."What's going on?" Lee Anthony asked Casey Anthony. "That's when she opened up to me and said, 'Mom has thrown it in my face many times before that I'm an unfit mother, and you know, maybe she's right and maybe I am.'"Lee Anthony told his sister that she needed to start providing answers because their mother threatened to call police."The officer is going to say, you know, 'Good evening, Mrs. Anthony. Where's your daughter?' And she says, 'She's with the nanny. She's sleeping.' And again, playing the role of police officer, I say to my sister, 'Great, Mrs. Anthony. That's going to be a relief to everybody. Let's go get her,'" Lee Anthony said.Lee Anthony also told investigators that his mother and sister were fighting about things other than Caylee."They're fighting about this stuff in the past instead of trying to focus on the information that we need to get," Lee Anthony said. "My mom is convinced that my sister holds some kind of resentment to her."Transcripts of the interviews were released earlier this week.'Babysitting Service' Mocks Protesters
An outdoor "babysitting service" set up near the Anthony's home mocked protesters who continue to bring their young children, even infants, to heckle the family.Local 6 videotaped a man taping signs to a baby's playpen reading, "Protesters Babysitting Service."Homeowners have accused protesters of bad parenting for bringing infants and young children to the Anthony's Orange County home -- even late at night. The home has become a tourist attraction for some visitors to Orlando and at least one group planned a trip to see the home after Casey Anthony was released from jail for the third time.Recently, children were videotaped holding death signs in their parent's arms outside the Anthony home. The protesters did not like the "babysitting service" and mocked the man setting it up, Local 6 reported.Casey Sent 553 Text Messages
A a series of more than 550 text messages sent by Casey Anthony reveal the woman did not appear to be worried about her daughter in the days the girl was missing.According to cell phone documents, in a two-month period between April and June, Casey Anthony sent her friend Amy Huizenga 553 text messages.Of the messages, only two references are made to Caylee. On May 13, Casey Anthony sent a text message that said, "My mom is taking the kid for the weekend for part of her vacation (with a smiley face)."Then, less than a week before the toddler's disappearance, Casey Anthony announced, "Caylee just pooped in her potty for the first time. Sorry, proud mama."The message was the last time Casey Anthony mentioned her daughter to Huizenga in text messages.A week after the toddler vanished, Anthony sent a text to Huizenga that said, "Leaving for work in a few. I'll call you on my way to the house."Casey Anthony did not have a job at Universal Studios or apparently anywhere else, Local 6 has learned. On June 26, Casey Anthony wrote, "I need a freaking vacation."The next day, a text message told Huizenga about how her car smelled like a dead animal -- and how it was possibly a squirrel that was run over.Fifteen minutes later, Casey Anthony wrote, "My car ran out of gas again. Two weeks in a row. On Friday, my stupid car runs out of gas. Wow."It now appears that Casey Anthony stole the gasoline cans from her father's back yard shed after she ran out of gas for the first time, Local 6 reported.George Anthony seized the cans back from Casey Anthony. Then, her vehicle's tank ran dry again, forcing her to abandon the car at an Amscot. Two days later, on June 29, Casey Anthony sends a message to Huizenga," Can I borrow you and your gas can today?"By that time, the car had already been towed.Anthony told Huizenga that her father had picked up the car, which was not true, Local 6's Mike DeForest said.Gonzalez Hires Prominent Attorney
Meanwhile, the woman who Casey Anthony claims to be Caylee's nanny, Zenaida Gonzalez, has hired a prominent Central Florida attorney.Gonzalez told Local 6 that John Morgan is representing her in a lawsuit against the Anthony family.Gonzalez said that since her name made national news, she's been unable to get a job and that being associated with Caylee's disappearance has ruined her reputation.Gonzalez's attorney will press on with a defamation lawsuit because the sheriff's office has cleared her name.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
