Amtrak Hits Big Rig; Driver Jumps To Safety

No Injuries Reported

An Amtrak train carrying 214 passengers struck a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon in Volusia County, but no one was injured, according to Amtrak officials.

The crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. at a private crossing that leads to a roofing warehouse near U.S. Highway 17 and Turkey Shoot Road in Pierson.

According to Amtrak officials, Auto Train No. 52, which was traveling from Sanford to Virginia, was involved in the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer jumped out of the big rig before it was struck, Amtrak officials said.

Officials are examining damage to the train to see if it will be able to continue on its trip.
