NAPLES, Fla. -- Florida fertility banks are booming because of the sluggish economy.
Our Fairy Godmother, a clinic in Naples, said egg donors have doubled since last month and quadrupled since September 2007.
"I have been involved in reproduction medicine since 1990, and I have never seen this kind of an increase in the number of applications with eggs, sperm donors or surrogates," said Cathy Ruberto, owner of Our Fairy Godmother.
Egg donors can receive from $3,000 to $10,000, Local 6 News reported. Donors have to go through months of tests, hormone shots and psychological evaluations before being selected.
