A Kissimmee man was hospitalized Monday night after being bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake that he was trying to remove from an apartment hallway.

The man, who has not been identified, spotted the snake around 7 p.m. in an outside hallway of the Arrow Ridge Apartments off Hoagland Boulevard near Osceola Square Mall.

Firefighters said the man was trying to remove the rattlesnake and had a woman use a broom to push it into his hand when the snake bit him.

The man received antinvenin treatments. His condition was not released.
