PALM BAY, Fla. -- The mother of a 3-year-old boy was treated for a serious wound after being bitten by a pit bull in Palm Bay, seven months after the same dog attacked her son, police said.
The woman was attacked in the 500 block of Southeast Bluefield Street at about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. A neighbor called 911 to report that her friend had been bitten by a pit bull, Palm Bay police said.
An officer said the dog also became aggressive toward a child on a bicycle.
An animal services officer attempted to capture the pit bull, which fled into a wooded lot, police said. The owner of the dog helped secure the animal, and signed it over to authorities, who will euthanize the animal after a 10-day quarantine period, Palm Bay police said.
According to Brevard County Animal Services, the pit bull attacked the woman's son in April. The boy suffered minor puncture wounds in the attack, police said.
The owner was cited in April and ordered to keep the dog in home quarantine and maintain the animal in a secure fashion, police said.
No criminal charges will be filed in Wednesday's attack, and the incident will be dealt with on a civil level through Brevard County Animal Services, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital and may need surgery for a "deep" bite wound, Palm Bay police said.
