A 43-year-old kayaker was rescued Tuesday night by the U.S. Coast Guard about 8 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral, officials said.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Marshall Riff told Local 6 News partner Florida Today that the kayaker called to say that he was too tired to continue rowing.

"He was too exhausted to paddle back," Riff said. "He was cold, tired and a little seasick."

A helicopter from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office assisted in the rescue, which took place at about 6 p.m.
