PINE LAKES, Fla. -- An anonymous tip led Lake County authorities to 90 malnourished cows, which were seized after the owner failed to comply with orders to guide the animals back to health, deputies said.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Lake County Animal Services opened an investigation Feb. 26 after receiving a tip about possible animal neglect.
The tipster said that several head of cattle were being neglected at 41936 Maggie Jones Rd. in the Pine Lakes area of Lake County.
Officials found several cattle that appeared to be malnourished, and the owner, Richard Rogers, was ordered by Lake County Animal Services to have the cattle checked by a veterinarian. He was also told to follow the veterinarian's guidance to get the cattle back to good health.
Rogers failed to comply with the order, and the cows were seized, Lake County sheriff's deputies said.
Lake County Animal Services is asking for assistance from the community for the care and feeding of the cattle. Anyone interested in making a donation can call 352-343-9688.
