Two Marion County parents have been arrested after, according to deputies, they forced their child to live in deplorable conditions.
Deputies received a report of a child living in filthy conditions at a home in Silver Springs Shores on Thursday.
Upon further investigation, deputies found garbage, rotting food, dirty laundry, and animal and human waste throughout the house.
Deputies also said the floor appeared to be covered in sewage after a drain back-up. Deputies were tipped off after their child was not treated for head lice after being sent home from school.
The child told deputies he had seen his mother roll her own cigarettes, but no drugs were found in the home.
Both parents were taken to the Marion County jail and are charged with felony child neglect.
