The city said Ria Katz must have a permit to keep the cats but officials are not sure what to do about the situation because they have never been confronted with this type of problem.
According to a Reno ordinance, a person cannot have more than 3 cats in
their home, and located within 200 feet of any other dwelling house.
Katz has reportedly taken care of thousands of the furry felines at her home for the last 20 years. She apparently adopts them from people who are evicted from their homes, or who are in the hospital or in jail.
Katz even redecorated her house in plastic furniture and linoleum to
make the cats feel comfortable, according to the report.
People who know the woman say the city should make an exception to
the rule.
Also, a local animal shelter has offered to take some of the cats
in.
