ORLANDO, Fla. -- Attorneys in the civil case against Casey Anthony deposed Anthony's former best friend, Annie Downing, Thursday afternoon.
During the deposition, Downing said the first time she ever heard the name Zenaida Gonzalez was on the news, not from Anthony.
According to the lawsuit, Gonzalez is suing Anthony for damages incurred when Anthony told investigators that Caylee was kidnapped by a woman named Zenaida Gonzalez. Anthony referred to the woman as Zanny the Nanny.
During the deposition, Downing also said when Anthony was released from jail the first time in July, she screamed at her mother, Cindy Anthony, because Cindy Anthony had sent an e-mail and signed it as Casey Anthony.
Gonzalez's attorney said Downing was extremely cooperative.
"(Downing) could be a key witnesses. She is one of the witnesses that should say – she was, in my understanding, a best friend in the middle of all of this – could have critical information for us. We just won't know until we get there," Gonzalez's attorney, Keith Mitnik, said before the depositions.
Civil Hearing Postponed
A hearing in the civil case against Casey Anthony was postponed on Thursday.
The hearing was scheduled to address a motion filed by Gonzalez's attorney to compel George, Cindy and Lee Anthony to answer questions they refused during depositions.
The suit was amended on Tuesday to include additional evidence that Casey Anthony's family members also contributed to the defamation of Gonzalez.
The hearing was postponed because George and Cindy Anthony's attorney, Brad Conway, injured himself and was unable to attend the hearing.
A new date for the hearing was not set, but the judge said it could be in June.
