Maitland, UCF-Area Rapes May Be Linked

Man Described As Having Tattoo On Stomach

A man wanted in connection with a gunpoint rape last month at a Maitland apartment complex may also be responsible for an attack near the campus of the University of Central Florida, according to investigators.

Maitland police on Wednesday released a composite sketch of a man wanted for questioning in the rape of a woman in May at the Arbors at Maitland Summit Apartments.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said the same person was likely responsible for an attack that occurred in March at an apartment complex near UCF.

Police said the attacks were somewhat similar.

"It was kind of like, 'Oh, that could have been me.' I was at my parents' house, but if I would have come home, that could have been me," said Michelee Falardeau, who lives at the Arbors.

"I don't feel safe here at all. Even if they have the security in front, anybody can walk on (the property)," said Dara Wilson, who lives in an apartment near UCF.

Police described the assailant as a black man about 6 feet tall, 20 to 25 years old with dreadlocks. One of the victims said he had hair on his chin and a tattoo on his stomach.

Anyone with information about the attacks is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
