A motorcycle deputy who worked traffic control outside the Amway Arena Tuesday night was injured in a crash early Wednesday morning.

VIDEO: Deputy Crash

The deputy finished his work downtown and was on his way home when he slammed into a deer on a dark stretch of Old Mims Road in Geneva, near Oviedo.

The head of Orange County's motorcycle unit said the crash shows why they normally do not ride at night, but it could not be avoided because of the game.

The deputy is expected to recover. He has bruised and broken ribs, but his Kevlar vest helped prevent more serious injuries.
