FROSTPROOF, Fla. -- Authorities on Friday released a composite sketch of a man who attempted to abduct a woman selling fruit from a truck in Frostproof.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the woman was selling melons at about 1:30 p.m. Monday alongside U.S. Highway 27 in Frostproof, about a mile north of Highlands County.
The woman said she was approached by a man who told her in Spanish to come with him, deputies said. The assailant then grabbed the woman and attempted to force her into his vehicle, deputies said.
The victim resisted, and the culprit fled the area, deputies said.
The sheriff's office said the assailant was believed to be a Puerto Rican man about 20 to 30 years old. He has short, light brown hair and was about 5 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing baggy tan pants, a gray T-shirt and a baseball hat.
The man was driving a faded white older-model four-door mid-size car that had a Puerto Rican flag hanging from its rearview mirror. The car had a partial Florida tag number of C16.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call authorities.
