UPDATED: 10:55 am EDT July 1, 2009

A search continues Wednesday after a K-9 officer and his dog came under fire at an Orlando park, police said.

Orlando police said the on-duty officer was exercising the K-9 at about 2:45 a.m. at Trotters Park, located at 1905 Lee Road, when someone shot at him and the dog.

The officer took cover and returned fire, Orlando police said.

During a search, several shell casings were located, police said.

A search for the culprit is ongoing, but Trotters Park has been reopened.

Roadways near the park, including Lee Road, Orange Blossom Trail and Edgewater Drive, were blocked off after the shooting, but the police perimiter has been scaled back.

No one was injured in the shooting.
