Shark Attacks Girl On Boogie Board

12-Year-Old Bitten On Ankle Off Daytona Beach

A 12-year-old Ohio girl on a boogie board off Daytona Beach was attacked Sunday by a shark, officials said.

According to Volusia County Beach Patrol, the girl was in water about 4-feet deep near the Zelda Beach Approach at about 4 p.m. when the shark bit her ankle.

The girl's parents drove her to a hospital, where she received stitches for her wound.

Beach Patrol officials said murky water and baitfish in the area likely caused the attack.

The incident marks the sixth shark bite in Volusia County this year.
