Fay-Ravaged Flood Zone Gets Help

$1.5 Million Drainage Project To Help Melbourne Community

POSTED: Monday, July 6, 2009
UPDATED: 7:35 pm EDT July 6, 2009

Work officially began to fight flooding at a Brevard County community that was ravaged last year by Tropical Storm Fay.

A $1.5 million project to improve drainage in the Lamplighter Village area of the county kicked off with a groundbreaking Monday morning.

The area was underwater for days when Tropical Storm Fay stalled over Central Florida in August.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing about 75 percent of the funding for the project, which is expected to take about three months to complete.
