Giovanna Drpic
This self-confessed "news junkie" joins WKMG-TV after gaining news experience in Huntsville, Ala., and Memphis, Tenn.
Giovanna's last name, "Drpic" tends to throw a few Floridians but yes, it is spelled correctly. Drpic is a Croatian name, but she is also part German, Peruvian and Bolivian.
She loves tackling issues that affect the Hispanic community and was actually named the 2001 winner of the N.S. Bienstock/RTNDA Minority Fellowship for her reporting on minorities.
Giovanna began her career by driving nearly an hour to get to her first job to work the graveyard shift. At that job, she made less money than her sister who was still in high school. However, she says never dreamed of leaving broadcast journalism.
Giovanna has a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in economics, which helps her cover business-related stories.
When she has spare time, Giovanna loves to spend time with her parents and two sisters, whom she calls her rock solid foundation.
She enjoys reading and dancing and is determined to learn tennis now that she's back in sunny weather.
She also loves traveling and has visited places such as London, Chile, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Giovanna says the best stories come from the community.
