2 arrested in armed robbery; Lockdown lifted at Altamonte Springs school

Police search wooded area near Spring Lake Elementary School

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A lockdown at an Altamonte Springs elementary school was lifted Thursday morning after police arrested two men suspected of robbing a nearby store at gunpoint.

Spring Lake Elementary School on Orange Avenue was locked down Thursday morning after the robbery occurred around 7 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express at 551 State Road 436.  The lockdown was lifted about three hours later.

According to Altamonte Springs police, two assailants robbed the store at gunpoint and ran into a nearby wooded area near S.R. 436 and Weathersfield Avenue.

One of the men was arrested a couple of hours later.  The other man was arrested a short time after that.

Police said infrared cameras from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office helicopter detected the men hiding in the woods near the school.

No one was injured in the robbery, but a Seminole County deputy suffered a minor leg injury while searching for the duo.
