2 arrested in spare key car thefts, Seminole County deputies say
Task force says 40 percent of car thieves used hidden spares
Two men were arrested for using hidden spare keys to steal cars last week in Seminole County, deputies said.
Officers said that Calaisi Gomes, 18, and a 17-year-old partner were charged with grand theft after stealing two cars in the Altamonte Springs and Apopka areas.
Deputies discovered one of the stolen cars in a parking lot with a wallet containing one of the suspect's identification inside.
Spare keys kept inside of vehicles resulted in 40 percent of stolen cars last year, according to the City-County Auto Theft Task Force. They say leaving a spare key inside of a vehicle is an open invitation to car thieves and should never be done.
