Man, woman found dead during well-being check

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Police on Tuesday identified two people found dead of gunshot wounds at an apartment off Palm Bay Road.

Police said Tyrone Johnson, 36, and Beth Jansen, 38, were found dead Monday inside apartment 12 at 4931 Widener Court inside the Harvard Apartments north of Palm Bay Road and east of Dairy Road.

Police officials said a "concerned friend" called them at 3:24 p.m. Monday to check on Johnson's well being. A firearm was found at the scene with the bodies, and police are continuing an investigation of the deaths.

"We are considering the possibility that it is a murder-suicide," Melbourne police spokesman Sgt. Sheridan Shelley told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

Police are unsure of the relationship between Johnson and Jansen. Records show Johnson lived at the apartment and Jansen lived in Indialantic.

Officials are not looking for suspects and the crime scene is limited to the apartment where the bodies were found.

Early Tuesday morning, police officers stood guard outside the second-story apartment where the shootings took place. Apartment 12 was sealed off to prevent anyone from getting in and disturbing the crime scene.

Neighbors said the complex is typically quiet, and this incident sent a ripple of concern through the community.

Anyone with information on the Johnson or Jansen or the incident Monday is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
