2 hit by BBs in Kissimmee; Shooter sought

Woman suffers minor injuries in 2nd shooting

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee police continue to search for the culprits who used BB guns to shoot two people in random, separate incidents.

The first shooting occurred February 26 at 307 W. Bass St.  According to police, a person was standing on a porch when a white four-door sedan pulled into the parking lot.  Several shots were fired at the person, striking the victim once, according to police.

The person was not injured, and the vehicle fled the scene.

On Sunday, retired police officer Linda Belfiore was walking through Chambers Park at 2380 Smith St. when she was shot in the leg with a BB/pellet gun, police said.  The woman told Local 6 that the BB is lodged in her leg and it will have to be surgically removed.

"It almost felt like a snakebite and I looked down and then I could see a little hole in the back of my calf," she said.

Belfiore says as soon as she realized she'd been shot, she took cover and called police. She thinks the shot came from a parking lot about 30 feet away from where she was walking.

"I was targeted and the fact that I was targeted, a child could have been hit and could have been seriously hurt," said Belfiore.

Belfiore, who was an officer for 25 years, said she saw a black sedan and a white sedan nearby, and when police arrived, the white car drove off, according to police.

It's not known if the same car was involved in both shootings, but police said the first victim also spotted a white sedan when he was shot.

Police have not said the crimes are linked for certain, but are looking into a connection.

Officers are also investigating a BB gun shooting from June, when several teens were spotted on surveillance video shooting into a Kissimmee medical building. No arrests were made.

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to call the Kissimmee Police Department's at 407-846-3333 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
