Two men have suffered serious injuries in a plane crash at Merritt Island Airport on Wednesday afternoon, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
Brevard County Fire Rescue said the Comp Air single-engine turbo prop plane crashed Wednesday afternoon with two men on board.
Crews arrived at 2:43 p.m. and reported an airplane resting upside down on the south side of the airport's runways, according to a BCFR release. The airplane suffered significant damage, officials said.
The men were able to get off the plane themselves, according to officials. A trauma alert was issued for both the pilot and passenger involved in the crash, but both refused air transport. They were both taken to the Trauma Center at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne by ambulance.
