2 injured in rollover crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County

Medical helicopter lands in middle of interstate near Lake Helen

LAKE HELEN, Fla. – Two people were seriously injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County.

Michele Ware, 47, of Orlando, and Gregory Ware, 53, of Eatonville, were hurt in the crash, which happened around 10 a.m. Monday on I-4 eastbound at Orange Camp Road (mile marker 116) in Lake Helen.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Michele Ware was driving an Isuzu Trooper when she lost control of the SUV, which overturned several times.

Michele Ware was trapped inside the SUV, while Gregory Ware, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.  Both were taken to Halifax Hospital in serious condition.

I-4 was closed while a medical helicopter landed in the middle of the roadway, but the interstate later reopened.

An investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
