2 killed, 6 hospitalized in crash on I-95

Troopers say accident involves passenger bus, semi

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that shut down a portion of Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the northbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 278, not far from Old Dixie Highway exit.

Troopers said 50-year-old Javier Flores, of Avon Park, was driving a semi-truck north on Interstate 95, when for unknown reasons, he drove into the path of 63-year-old Angel Benitez, who was driving a passenger van.

Benitez went into the shoulder and overturned.

According to FHP, Angel Benitez and 28-year-old Angela Benitez were killed in the crash. Six people were also hospitalized in the crash.

Everyone in the van was from Westbury, New York, authorities said.
