Man, woman airlifted to hospital after being burned

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man and woman were airlifted to a hospital after they were badly burned when a firework detonated near them on a Brevard County dock.

The incident occurred Thursday night on a dock along the Indian River in Brevard County near 4865 N. U.S. Highway 1.

Firefighters said a group of people were setting off fireworks, but one of them did not detonate.  The dyi got closer to the firework and it exploded, burning them.

The burn victims jumped into the water, but they were assisted out before the arrival of rescue officials.

Both victims were airlifted by medical helicopters to Orlando Regional Medical Center where they were placed in the trauma/burn center.

Officials initially told Local 6 News that the victims were both men.
