A Central Florida couple survived after a sea plane crashed and flipped in a Flagler County lake.

The Flagler County Sheriffs Office said they received a call at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday that a sea plane went down in Lake Disston, located in the southwest part of Flagler County.

Investigators told Local 6 that the pilot, 59-year-old Allan Burrows, of Port Orange, was attempting to land the plane but decided to abort the landing after the aircraft's pontoons didn't contact the water properly.  One pontoon then dipped into the water, causing the plane to cartwheel, investigators said.

Burrows and a woman swam to shore wearing flotation devices, said deputies, who added that neither of them was injured.  They were in the lake for about an hour.

Crews will pull the plane from the lake on Wednesday.
