A 2-year-old child was injured Monday morning after apparently being struck by a vehicle backing up in Palm Bay.

The accident happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 1800 block of Agora Circle.

The child suffered head injuries but was conscious as Palm Bay Fire Rescue paramedics arrived, officials told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

Paramedics called for a medical helicopter to airlift the child as a trauma hospital for further treatment.

Palm Bay police were investigating the crash.

A portion of Agora Circle was blocked off to traffic as the medical helicopter landed.
