ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Department of Children and Families has responded to three reports of children wandering alone in Orange County since July 1.
Most recently, on Wednesday, a toddler was found wandering alone on Lee Road, DCF officials said.
The first incident this month occurred on July 1 when a 2-year-old girl was found alone at the Florida Mall. Less than a week later, on July 7, a child was left at a Chuck E. Cheese.
Confusion among adults about who had the children appears to be the reason behind the first two incidents, while DCF officials said the third child wandered out of his home while his mother was asleep.
An observant driver noticed the boy walking along the road and contacted police.
All three children were safely returned to their families, but DCF wants to remind parents to teach their children basic information such as their name, parents' names and phone numbers. Officials also stressed the importance of ensuring your residence is childproof, especially when a child is not being directly supervised.
