ORLANDO, Fla. -- The man charged with raping a woman who was under the influence of a sleeping medication walked out of the Orange County Jail Sunday morning claiming his innocence.
Yehisson Acevedo was given a bond of $25,300 on sexual battery and burglary charges last Tuesday. Acevedo posted bail and will be held on home confinement electronic monitoring and will not be able to leave Orange County or contact the victim.
As Acevedo left the jail he was asked if the allegations that he raped a woman are true, and Acevedo, said "No, they're not."
The victim told police she drank a bottle of wine before taking an Ambien around 12:30 a.m. July 17 and that she has a history of memory loss when taking the medication.
Detectives said Acevedo met the victim at the 7-Eleven on East Colonial Drive in downtown Orlando and followed her to her apartment, where he raped and robbed her.
Acevedo was arrested July 22. He emphatically denied the charges against him.
During a court hearing last Tuesday, Acevedo told the judge about his four years of military service, including two commissions to Afghanistan, in order to prove he was not a flight risk.
The father of two claimed the sex he had with the woman was consensual and that she gave him the goods he is accused of stealing. He also said he did not know she was on Ambien.
"No, I'm not a rapist. This is not happening. She's lying to you. I can't believe she is doing this," Acevedo said.
Acevedo was initially denied bond.
