Easter baskets filled with toy guns, Army action figures and other war toys were found at several Central Florida stores including a store chain that announced the baskets would be pulled during the conflict with Iraq, according to Local 6 News.
Baskets filled with war-related items can be found in Central Florida Wal-Mart and Kmart stores. However, the Walgreens chain recently announced that it would not sell Easter baskets that included war toys.
"With the impending war, we do not feel it is appropriate to sell baskets with soldiers and military men," Walgreens spokeswoman Carol Hively said.
However, Problem Solver Wendy Saltzman discovered that several local Walgreen stores apparently did not receive the orders to pull the items.
Local 6 News found several war-theme baskets at Walgreens stores.
Saltzman asked an Orlando Walgreens store manager, "This (basket) was on your store shelves. Do you know why?"
The store manager responded, "They were supposed to be pulled."
Several residents said a war-theme did not belong in Easter baskets.
"It's just teaching them to be violent," parent Laquita Wilson said.
The Walgreens store in Orlando said they will remove the baskets from the store.
