UPDATED: 9:51 am EDT September 2, 2009

At least four people were injured, one seriously, in an early-morning crash Wednesday near Palm Shores.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 just north of the Pineda Causeway.

The right lanes in both directions have reopened. All lanes -- northbound and southbound -- were closed for a short time, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

According to witnesses, a two-car wreck triggered a three-car crash at about 7 a.m. near the intersection of Jen Drive. One person was trapped in a vehicle and had to be cut out by Brevard County Fire-Rescue crews.

A helicopter evacuated one person.

The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
