ORLANDO, Fla. -- The commute for thousands of Orlando-area drivers should be easier as new lanes have opened on a stretch of the East-West Expressway.
The new lanes on state Road 408 run between Oxalis Avenue and Crystal Lake Drive and are a part of $202 million construction project.
As part of the project, five new lanes opened between Goldenrod Road and Primrose Avenue, and the Conway west toll plaza opened a pair of new traffic lanes.
Officials said more than 100,000 drivers will likely be affected daily by the expansion.
Motorists who travel that area of state Road 408 said any reduction to the time of their commute is welcome news.
"When it gets bad, (my delay) is about 45 minutes to one hour," said motorist George Anderson, who the changes will help him. "A hundred percent. Definitely, yeah."
"Oh, I've been stuck plenty of times ... this is going to help a lot better for us," said Jose Rodriguez, who was driving with his father.
