A pregnant woman and her 11-month-old child were thrown from a car and killed in a car crash in Polk County Tuesday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of U.S. 27 and Citrus Ridge in Davenport around 7 p.m.

Authorities said an Oldsmobile carrying four people was crossing over the highway when it collided with a minivan. The infant, Layla Pinto-Tijerno, was airlifted and died at the hospital.

The infant's mother, Lucero Tijerno, 17, was pregnant. She died at the scene along with Eduardo Lopez, 22. The driver of the car was trauma-alerted to another hospital.

The family of three, including an infant, inside the van was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the pregnant woman and the infant in the Oldsmobile were not properly restrained.
