LONGWOOD, Fla. -- A Seminole County school was on lockdown after a black bear was found on its campus.
According to Fish and Wildlife, the bear was found on Pace-Brantley Hall school property Monday morning. The bear climbed up a tree when deputies tried to chase it off school grounds.
The bear came down briefly, but then climbed 30 feet high in a tree near a portable classroom.
FWC said the bear left the tree and school property around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The school is planning to replace a Dumpster the bear had been in with a bear-resistant Dumpster.
The school is located just south of Wekiva State Forest, which FWC is a common place for bears to appear.
