ORLANDO, Fla. -- The wife of an Orlando Magic executive died on Saturday, a day after she fell off a ladder while retrieving Halloween decorations for her children.
Julie Bissey, whose husband Jeff Bissey is the controller of the Orlando Magic, suffered a head injury in the fall, which occurred on Friday. She leaves behind her husband and two children, ages 10 and 13. Julie Bissey was 42 years old.
Julie Bissey, who grew up in Kansas, was a PTA leader and a Sunday school teacher, and she had a passion for volunteering.
Friends said Bissey was a kind, loving woman.
Angela Tolle said she met Bissey about 10 years ago at the First Presbyterian Chuch of Maitland.
"Every couple of weeks I would get a card in the mail from her and it would have $20 in it in cash, and it would say, 'Times are tough, just go do something for yourself. Don't send me a thank you and know that I love you,'" said Tolle, whose husband was hospitalized at the time.
The Orlando Magic held a moment of silence for Julie Bissey prior to the team's preseason game Wednesday night.
