ORLANDO, Fla. -- A jury on Friday found two men guilty of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl, a day after the pair took the stand in their own defense.
Richard Morales Marin and Juan Hernandez Monzalvo each face two life sentences. Sentencing will be held Jan. 7.
Marin and Monzalvo admitted to picking up the 12-year-old while she was walking to school in Orange County in February and having sex with her.
Monzalvo testified that Marin forced him to have sex with the girl at knifepoint.
"I had to do it because if not, he was going to kill me with a knife," Monzalvo said from the stand on Thursday.
When prosecutors asked Monzalvo why he didn't stop attacking the girl when Marin left the room, he broke down in tears.
Marin said he thought the girl was a prostitute.
"She greeted us, but not with words, just with a sign," Marin said.
Marin said the girl consented to having sex with him, and then with Monzalvo. He said he didn't notice until later that she had a backpack and was a child.
"I asked her if I could take her to school, and she said, 'Yes,' " Marin said.
The victim testified earlier in the week and said she was kidnapped at knifepoint, taken to a vacant house and brutally raped.
